Jacob Cruz-Rine

Jacob Cruz-Rine (he/him) is a CHamoru filmmaker currently living on coastal Pomo land. Through fiction and non-fiction, Cruz-Rine is exploring creation story, the effects of colonialism, a deep longing for “home”, and ancestral practices associated with Guahan, as a CHamoru person living in the diaspora.

Cruz-Rine received his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2018 and his MFA in Film Directing from Calarts in 2025. He has shown films at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Kearny Street Workshop, ProArts, and recently premiered his short film, The Forest is a Spirit That Beckons Me, at the 26th San Diego Asian Film Festival.
