Jacob Cruz-Rine

Jacob Cruz-Rine (he/him) is a CHamoru filmmaker currently living on Tongva land. Through fiction and non-fiction, Cruz-Rine is exploring creation story, the effects of colonialism, a deep longing for “home”, and ancestral practices associated with Guahan, as a CHamoru person living in the diaspora.

Cruz-Rine received his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2018 and his MFA in Film Directing from Calarts in 2025. He has shown films at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Kearny Street Workshop, ProArts, and will shortly premiere The Forest is a Spirit That Beckons Me, a CHamoru folktale, at the San Diego Asian Film Festival.
